Excerpt:
Marina saw the camera shift, so knew someone watched her. She tried to keep her expression neutral. She didn’t want to show her fear to anyone. Alone, lost in a snowstorm, no telephone. She could almost hear the eerie music, the song that played right before the killer jumped out of the bushes with an ax. Or a chainsaw.

She shivered.

“May I help you?” a deep, male voice asked.

Marina leaned out her window. Despite not knowing who that voice belonged to, she had no choice but to ask for help. “Yes, please. I took a wrong turn. There’s no signal on my cell. Do you have a phone I can use?”

“Of course. Please follow the drive to the house.”

The gate with the large “R” in the middle swung open. Tall pine trees lined the drive on both sides. Marina inched forward in the deepening snow. She assumed a house would appear eventually, although she saw no indication that anything existed beyond the gate.

Marina had always believed the majority of people were good, that they would help someone if they could. She hoped her belief held and she didn’t head toward a house of flesh-eating weirdoes.

The drive arced to the right. Marina took the curve, and gasped. A huge house came into her sight. Three stories and made of stone, the Victorian mansion looked like something from a Gothic novel. She couldn’t tell for sure through the falling snow and deepening dusk, but it appeared the house had been built into the rock hillside.

Ancient architecture had always fascinated her. She’d promised herself someday she’d go to Europe so she could drool over all the centuries-old buildings.

Marina stopped her car at the bottom of the steps leading to the double front doors. She turned off the motor and took a deep breath.

Time to meet the flesh-eating weirdoes.

The door opened as she reached to press the doorbell. A man stood in the doorway.

Marina gulped.

An inch or two over six feet tall and dressed all in black. His dark hair swept back from a handsome face. Piercing blue eyes peered at her from beneath black eyebrows. A hint of stubble covered his cheeks and jaw. His shirt stretched over broad shoulders, tight pants cupped his penis.

Dayum. Nice package.

He opened the door wider. “Come in, please.”

Marina jerked her attention to his face when he spoke to her. Heat rushed to her cheeks when she realized she’d stared at his fly as if she’d never seen what lay hidden behind the zipper.

Well, it had been awhile…

She stepped into the foyer and he closed the door behind her. “I’m Tain Remington. How can I help you, Ms…”

“Black. Marina Black. I’d appreciate it if I could use your phone.”

“Of course. Follow me.”

He turned left and led her into a large room. An L-shaped mahogany desk dominated one corner. A leather sectional, tables, and lamps made a comfortable seating area in another corner. A rock fireplace covered one wall, an entertainment center the other. Marina didn’t know whether to call it an office or den.

“My assistant’s hideout,” Tain said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “He spends a lot of time in here, so I want him to be comfortable.” He gestured toward the desk. “Help yourself to the phone. Would you like coffee or perhaps hot tea?”

“I’d love a cup of tea.”

“Tea it is.” He smiled. “Take your time.”

He closed the door behind him. Marina’s knees grew weak. She flopped down in the chair behind the desk before they gave out on her. It’d been months since she and her boyfriend broke up, but that didn’t explain the breathless feeling, the heavy thudding of her heart. Tain Remington was a handsome man. That shouldn’t matter. Handsome men flitted in and out of her boss’s office every day. None of them made her clit throb, her nipples peak.

She didn’t think any man had ever affected her so strongly, so quickly.

Blurb:
When bad boy rockers Scott and Noah unexpectedly land in Hell, they don’t expect to meet Patience, their lovely admissions coordinator. What happens next is sinfully wicked and pure heaven. *This previously published story has been revised and re-edited.*

Genre/theme: Paranormal, bad boy rockers, hell, heaven, rubenesque heroine

Excerpt:

Patience Cadwell gobbled devil’s food cake, comfort food for the damned. Contrary to popular belief, there was chocolate in Hell. Satan was an SOB, but no fool. He didn’t want an uprising from his female staff.

As the admissions coordinator, Patience logged information on the poor souls who ended up here, thanks to earthly vice or a deal with the Devil. Those who’d unwittingly sold their souls were the saddest. They always arrived looking bewildered.

Precisely as she had centuries before when she’d jumped from the proverbial pan into the fire.

Finished for the day, she sagged into her chair, too tired to leave even though she should. She had exactly one hour off before her next twenty-three hour shift began.

The waiting room door flew open.

Crud. More overtime.

She crammed cake into her mouth, looked up, and froze.

Two guys stopped several feet from her desk and took in the opulent office: cherry-wood furniture and paneling, Tiffany lamps, black leather sofas, Persian rugs.

Their baffled expressions were still sexy, both of them tall, over six feet, their bods lean and muscular. If she had to guess, she’d say they were in their early thirties. One was blond, the other dark-haired, their features downright gorgeous but roughly masculine.

Her belly fluttered.

They exchanged a glance and turned to her.

After swallowing hard, she brushed crumbs from her mouth and prim white blouse.
“Hey.”

Mr. Beautiful Blond lifted his dark eyebrows, a nice contrast to his light, shoulder-length locks. “Ah, hey.” He chuckled. “I’m not sure why we’re here.”

“Or how we got to this room.” Mr. Darkly Handsome scratched his bristly cheek. “I don’t recall taking the elevator up to this floor.”

His lushly lashed eyes were gray. Totally drool-worthy.

Her computer dinged. The screen showed their bios. She lifted a finger and read. The light-haired one was Scott Myers, the dark one Noah Reese, both rock artists.

No wonder they wore low-slung jeans, biker boots, and leather vests, no shirts. Scott’s chest was smooth and bronze, muscles hard, abs superbly defined. Noah’s was as powerful, his complexion olive. Short, dark hairs hugged his pecs.

She dipped lower.

The hefty bulges behind their flies were downright luscious, what every female desired, and what Patience had never gotten here or on Earth. She slumped. “There’s something I have to explain to you.”

Scott fingered his feather earring, its golden color matching his hazel eyes. “Explain? Did we do something wrong during our show?”

She bet they’d been awesome. According to their profiles, their band Raw Daze played classic rock, both guys performing vocals. Sometimes the music had a hard edge. In other instances it was lushly sentimental like Bryan Adams’ Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman. One of her fave songs. “Not that I know of. The problem happened when you were cheating.”

Scott blinked. “What are you talking about? I’m not even dating anyone, much less involved in a committed relationship.” He zeroed in on her mouth. “At all. I’m totally free.”

“Me too.” Noah wiggled his eyebrows.

Wow, they were flirting. She smiled like a lovesick teen then sobered given the grave situation.

Scott ambled closer. “Even if we were messing around, why would management care…or did you want to know?” He wagged his finger.

Patience would have willingly sold her already mortgaged soul to lick it and any other part of him.

Noah crossed his arms. The tribal tat on his left biceps showed savage curls and swirls.

Her mouth went dry. “I’m not talking about women. You were gambling.”

Scott shrugged. “We are over twenty-one, and this is Vegas.”

“Not exactly. In fact, not anywhere close. We’re far, far away from there.”

Confusion swept their features.

She braced herself for the fallout. “I’m sorry, but this is Hell. Literally.”

They stared then laughed.

She flicked her hand. The plush surroundings disappeared, showing the real décor…a barren landscape in orange and red. In the distance, craggy mountains spewed lava or belched smoke, a sulfur stench fouling the air.

The guys wrinkled their noses and shrank back.

“What the fuck?” Scott flung out his arms. “What the hell is this?”

His armpit hair was dark and silky. His musky, clean scent enticed her as nothing else had. “Exactly. That’s what this is—Hell. What you saw before is an illusion.”

To demonstrate, she brought the waiting room back.

Noah bolted to the door.

It slammed. He shoved against it, grunting loudly. The thing wouldn’t budge. He beat and kicked the wood.

Scott rubbed his forehead. “Someone must have spiked our drinks. This has to be a hallucination.”

“Sorry, no.” She left her chair and offered him a Corona, his favorite beer.

He inched away. “You want to drug me even more?”

“I swear nothing is in the brew except what the manufacturer uses. Before you say no to this, you might need a drink to calm down while I explain.”

“I don’t want to hear anything else.”

“Sorry, but it’s my job.” She slapped the bottle in his hand. “Noah?” She gave him a Coors.

He swung his bottle against the door. It still didn’t open, nor did the glass break.

“Please.” She smoothed her long black skirt. “Try to relax.”

They downed the booze and tossed the bottles, their eyes still wild. Breaking protocol, she gave each another drink. “Sit.” She gestured to a sofa. “Please.”

They drank and paced.

She followed, wringing her hands. “I know this is hard to understand, but you were counting cards.”

“Huh?” Noah whirled on her. “Since when? I was losing at blackjack. So was Scott.”

“That may be, but Satan doesn’t care.”

“What? Are you nuts?”

“No. I’m damned. Like both of you.”

Scott pointed at Noah. “I told you we shouldn’t have played this gig. I knew it would be trouble. Our brains are probably fried from the drugs someone put in our—”

She shouted, “No one drugged either of you. Satan owns the casino where you performed. The property isn’t in his real name, but an assumed earthly one. I’m sure both of you have seen him in news reports in his human form. He doesn’t like card counters, even if they’re technically legal in Vegas. He hates losing one cent. You pissed him off by even trying to beat the house. And now you’re here.”

“Impossible.” Scott crowded her.

He smelled so freaking good, she sniffed. He leaned in, all macho man. She liked that.

“Look, babe, even though—”

“Hold it right there. My name is Patience, not babe.”

“Excuse me. Patience. Even if you’re hot, that doesn’t mean—”

“You think I’m hot?” She waved her hands, stopping him before he could speak. “In appearance, that is. Not hot temperature wise.”

Both guys sweated badly. She figured from the heat here and possibly their anxiety. Perspiration coated her throat, more from her reaction to them than anything else.
Scott wiped his brow. “Of course the way you look.” His gaze prowled her curvy figure. Noah’s did, too. Raw male interest flashed in their eyes.

She beamed. “Thanks.”

Chapter One

Vivid. He nearly choked on his soda water as she walked in the door. Everything about her was vivid. He couldn’t decide if she was dressed for the Halloween party, or if her retro style was just her. Her curled black hair was 1950s glam. Everything else she wore fit the style, from her jeweled, pink-framed cat-eye glasses, to her puffy pink fifties-style party dress, to her coordinating stilettos. Her nails and lips matched the pink of her dress and shoes. She paused as if on a runway, waiting for everyone to see her.

While she paused, she scanned the room until her eyes finally lit on Jed Brownbear, the owner of the Alpha/omega BDSM Club for shapeshifters in Denver, who was sitting in the seat opposite him. Her face lit up and she shrieked, waving her arms. Jed grinned.

Scott Whitewolf blinked as every head turned at her screech. She did a funny little dance then launched herself across the room. He had no idea how the hell she ran on those stilts, but she did it.

“Big Daddy Grizzly! I’ve missed you!” she cried as she threw herself onto Jed’s lap and into his arms.

She planted pink kisses all over his bearded face. He caught her close in a hug, flipped her onto her belly and smacked her bottom five times, damn hard. She giggled and wiggled. Jed flipped her back over and she kissed his lips then his nose.

“Did you miss me?”

He laughed. “How could I not, you bad girl?”

“When I’m good I’m very good, but when I’m bad I’m better,” she laughed, quoting Mae West.

“Too true, little girl.” She pulled her lipstick and mirror out of her clutch to quickly and efficiently fix her lips. “So how did your last job go?” he asked.

“Fab. A plus model in Italian Vogue, can you believe it?”

“I can. You’re a stunner.”

“Thanks.” She smiled, yet took the praise as her due.

Scott set down his soda water, and her twinkling dark eyes turned to him. He felt like he’d been punched in the gut. If someone had set out to create his fantasy female, she would be it. Granted, the candy pink was a bit over the top. He’d prefer her in a more conservative pastel, but those lips. Those eyes. Jeez, she had the most elaborate cat eye make-up under those glasses of hers. Her body was rounded in exactly the right places. Her full breasts rose from a lacy deep v-neckline with a pink corset below her bust that cinched her waist. Below the bustier was a lacy pink confection of a skirt.

“Who’s your friend?” she asked.

“Beck Blackwolf, meet Scott Whitewolf.”

She tilted her head and raised her pink-lace-clad hands up to her glasses, lowering them just enough to see over the top.

“Hiya.”

“Hello Ms. Blackwolf.”

“Just Beck.”

“Beck, then.”

He lifted the water, tipped it toward her in a toast and took a drink. Her name sounded familiar but he wasn’t sure why. This was definitely a female who left an impression. She blinked once. Then her lips slowly started to curl. She winked and pushed her glasses back up. His cock rose to attention like it was tied to a string.

“Cool as a cucumber, aren’t you?”

“So, I’ve been told,” he agreed.

She turned to Jed and tilted her head toward Scott. “Is he the one?”

“Beck…” Jed rumbled.

“He is!” She bounced and he almost winced in sympathy. If Jed was as hard as he was, a bouncing bottom could hurt and hamper an otherwise pleasant evening.

“I am what?”

“You’re the wolf everyone calls Mr. Icehole.”

His brows raised and he let out a single bark of laughter. He knew they called him that but no one had ever said it to his face before. She twisted on Jed’s lap to face him and placed her elbows on the table. She set her chin on her hands giving him a glimpse of heaven in the mounds she put on display. That was some vision of cleavage. What male wouldn’t want to bury his face between her breasts to kiss and lick every inch?

“Why?”

“Why what?” He raised his brows at her question.

“Why do they call you that?”

“You already said why – cool as a cucumber.”

“That fits the Mr. Iceman moniker, but Mr.Icehole? That’s a whole different thing altogether.”

He fought to keep his lips immobile. Fought. Usually this wasn’t an effort at all. He rarely if ever smiled. But she had him amused twice in as many minutes. She certainly had his attention.

Excerpt:

“I think your lady is ready for another drink,” a tattooed guy said with a friendly tone. “Mind if my wife and I buy you two a drink?”

Anita stopped slurping the remnants of her cocktail and gave Sam a warning look. He loved his girlfriend dearly, but wished she wasn’t quite so conservative. This couple was just being friendly. But why did they decide to sit next to him and Anita?

Stop assuming the worst. Sam Quinn was used to expecting the worst in people—a side effect from working airport security. Terrorists at Seacrets were likely a low-risk concern. Perhaps this couple did have ulterior motives, like wife swapping. That wasn’t exactly Sam’s kink, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t have some fun chatting with them. “A drink? That’s nice of you to offer,” Sam said. “You don’t have to—”

“It’s our pleasure,” the woman added. “I’m Rene and this is my husband, Perry. We’re from Baltimore.” She rested her hands on the bar. On the back of Rene’s hand was a detailed rose tat. It looked 3D. Ink designs covered Perry’s hands too.

Sam introduced himself and Anita. Anita gave him a kick. He was going to get hell later, but the intricate detail of Rene’s tattoo was mesmerizing.

“Have you tried Swamp Water?” Perry asked Anita.

She looked confused.

“They’re good. They’re coconut rum, pineapple juice and Curaçao. Try one,” Rene said as she waved to the bartender and ordered two and a couple beers.

“We were about to leave, right Sam?” Anita shot him a look.

“Oh, you can hang for a drink,” Rene said. “It’s still early.”

Anita scowled at her murky green drink when it arrived but didn’t argue with Rene. Taking a sip, she smiled. “Mmmm. It is good.”

“What kind of work do you do, Sam?” Perry asked.

“TSA agent.”

“Interesting.” Perry locked his gaze with him. Red flags waved in the back of Sam’s mind.

As a TSA agent, Sam had an uncanny gift of reading people’s eyes, expressions and body language. Something in Perry’s gaze alarmed him. If someone had looked at him like that while going through his TSA check point, he would give them a pat down. What were his eyes telling him? A warning? Fear? A challenge or threat? Sam couldn’t figure it out. Something wasn’t right about these two. Or maybe he needed this vacation more than he thought.

“I’ve been admiring your tattoos,” Sam said as he watched their expressions. “Excellent work. It must’ve taken a long time to have those done. Were they all by the same artist?”

Perry and Rene exchanged a look. “Yes, she’s local,” Perry said. “On the boardwalk.”

“I don’t remember a tattoo parlor and we come here often.” Anita had sucked down half her drink. “What do you have on your neck?” she asked Perry.

Perry got up and sat on the stool next to her. Turning his head to the side, he elongated his neck, offering Anita a better view. “What would you call it?”

“It’s a dragon. A magnificent dragon. Look at all the colors.” While Perry pointed out his various tattoos, Rene showed the vine of roses coiling up her arm.

“Do the tats have specific meanings or stories?” Sam asked. “They’re very detailed.”

She laughed out loud. “Sort of.”

He noticed a shadow of sadness drift across Rene’s face. Anita was oblivious to his conversation. The designs on the man’s forearms enthralled her. She was literally staring. Fuck.

“Do you think tattoos are sexy?” Rene asked seductively.

“I guess.” He forced himself not to look at her deep cleavage and the tats that decorated her skin there. Man, he needed to take Anita back to the hotel and fuck her brains out before she got wasted on Swamp Water.

“How about mine?” Rene ran her hands over her arms, then stroked the tops of her breasts.

“Yes, I’d say so,” Sam replied. Holy shit, she was flirting with him. “There.” Rene eased the sleeve of Sam’s tee shirt up over his shoulder. “You have nice biceps and shoulders. The perfect place for tats.” Her fingernail drew imaginary designs on his arm.

He studied her with the narrowed gaze he reserved for troublemakers at the airport and added a cocky smile. “Think so?”

“Yes,” she breathed, leaning closer. “Men also look hot with tats on their calves and thighs. Her hand dropped to his knee, just below his cargo shorts. Would she slide those up too? His cock stirred. How much had she drunk?

Anita laughed. Sam glanced at Perry flexing his arm, making a scorpion tat appear to crawl. His girlfriend was amused.

“Have you ever thought about getting a tat?” Rene asked Sam with a sultry, teasing tone. “Or maybe you have one hidden?” She removed her hand from his knee. Sam released his breath. “No. I’ve thought about getting one. But I don’t have any.” Damn, it was getting warm. Was Rene coming on to him with her husband right there? He glanced back at Anita again. She was having another Swamp Water. Terrific.

“You should get one. You and your lady,” Rene said. “We get ours at Sinful Designs on the boardwalk. They do the best work.”

Ah, now he got it. “I suppose you two work there? Or own the business.”

She laughed. “You think we’re trying to drum up sales?”

Sam nodded.

“No, nothing like that. But there is something special about Sinful Designs that you won’t find at any other tattoo parlor.”

“Is that right?” Sam called over the bartender and ordered another beer and a drink for Rene. “Don’t take this the wrong way but are you two hitting on us?”

“Not exactly,” Perry said, looking up from his show-and-tell for Anita. “We saw you watching us earlier—”

“And you thought we’d like to hook up with you two,” Sam finished the sentence, sounding slightly annoyed but intrigued.

“That’s not it,” Rene said. “But I bet you wished you were out there having the most amazing sex with Anita. Am I right?”

“Sure,” Sam said.

Anita smiled nervously, then sipped more of her drink.

“What if I told you there was a way to increase your sexual enjoyment by at least ten times, be more adventurous, have longer hard-ons, and multiple orgasms?” Rene looked at Anita. “Anita, wouldn’t you love to have multiple orgasms whenever you willed them to happen?”

Anita rolled her eyes. “I have orgasms.”

“Four or five in one night, without being touched?”

“I’d say you’re full of shit,” Anita said.

Sam nearly choked on his beer. Anita Brooke never swore in front of strangers. She was getting drunk. Damn, he wasn’t getting any tonight.

“Do you believe in magic, the supernatural?”

“I try to keep an open mind.” Sam didn’t want to discount anything. But more than that, he wanted to see where this was going.

“Try one of these tattoos at Sinful Designs. Just one. I promise you won’t be disappointed.” Rene paused. “Don’t be surprised if you go back for more like we did.” Eyes wide, she glanced around the night club’s grounds, looked over her shoulder, then forced a smile. There was no hiding that look of terror. Cold fear flashed across her eyes. What had her so afraid? She didn’t look the type to scare easily. A shiver slid down Sam’s spine.

“Sounds too good to be true,” Sam said as he briefly fantasized a few possibilities—sex on the raft, sex with this couple, and a few positions Anita wasn’t crazy about trying. His cock throbbed as his heart pounded in his chest. The woman didn’t look like she was lying. Was business that bad that this tattoo parlor would think up this fantastical story to bring in a few customers?

Rene placed a hand on his arm. “Honest, Sam, we don’t make out financially if you get a tattoo. We’re just amazed by this woman. She’s a witch you know. Her name is Cassandra.”

“A witch?” Anita asked.

Rene smiled at Sam. “Trust me. You will have the most scorching sex you could ever imagine.”
