Blurb:
The apartment in Zurich was supposed to be the perfect disruption-free place to finish my dissertation. Trouble is, my room came with a very distracting view.

“Date anyone lately?”

She plunked a glass of iced tea in front of me as I ate amazingly good cheese and bread in the dining room. A humid breeze blew through the open sliding-glass door to the east balcony, the smell of freshly mowed lawn wafting up from the low rolling grassy common below.

I laughed darkly while a vision of me eating Little Man Goody Cao all by myself danced in my brain. “No.”

“Hmm.” Megan lifted a brow as she sat across from me.

“I’m too busy to fuss with online dating.” That’s what people did these days, wasn’t it?

“Surely there must be other grad students?”

“We’re all busy. And a lot of them are already married. With children.”

Megan sighed. “Well, it must be difficult to find a man in whatever it is you’re doing. Feminist Studies, is it?”

“Women’s Studies, Meg. And it’s only my emphasis.”

I scowled at her, but her eyes twinkled with joviality.

I shook my head. “There are a couple of great guys in Classics. Maybe when I’m finished―”

Megan threw up her hands. “Stop making excuses, Laur. It’s always after you finish this thing or that. The last time it was translating some Greek.”

I’d finished that well over a year ago.

She started to say something, then thought better of it. I gulped a swallow of tea and stared out the window.

To a perfect view of a naked guy.

A very hot naked guy.

I almost spit out my beverage.

He was in the building across the common. He was tall and blond, lanky but athletic, and framed by the large double window of his living room. He left and was out of sight for only a moment. He then re-appeared in the barely frosted glass of the bathroom shower stall and began to, um, well, bathe…rubbing soap all over…flexing and bending into the spray of water…grabbing and washing his—

Heat rose in my face. “Oh. My. God.”

Megan giggled. “That’s Christoph.”

“Christoph?” I squeaked.

“I used to watch him all the time. But after we became friends, it was sort of weird.” Megan sipped her tea. “He works at Parker’s company.” She eyed me. “He’s single.”

I eyed her right back. “And lives in Switzerland.”

She shrugged. “So you have a summer fling.”

Blurb:
I watched in horror as the twin towers collapsed, trying to remember if I’d told Scott I loved him before he left for New York.

“Jennie?” said the gorgeous guy I’d been ogling surreptitiously since the second he’d walked through the front door. “Hi. I’m Scott. Happy Birthday.” He stuck out his hand.

I smiled and tried not to melt under the intensity of his olive-green gaze as I shook his hand. His grip was strong, assertive, and compelling.

It was my thirtieth birthday and my friend Daphne was throwing me a “bring a single man” party at her flat in San Francisco. All my girlfriends were partnered, but I was the black sheep of the bunch. Perennially single with a string of atrocious short-term boyfriends and one-night-stands.

I met a lot of random guys that night, some of them even gay. (“Well, he’s single!”) Scott arrived late, and I had turned at the sound of the doorbell in hopeful anticipation. He chatted with Daphne briefly before heading straight over to me, wending his way through the cliques of party guests. My heart pumped blood to flush my face, frustrating my attempts to maintain my cool.

Physically he was everything I had fantasized about—and more. Tall, but not too tall. Green eyes, but a shade I had never expected. Brown hair, longish and tousled. Athletic frame covered by a button-down shirt and black jeans. Which meant he actually thought about what to wear to a stranger’s birthday party. He posed gallantly before me with one hand behind his back, as if he were going to bow.

“Hi. Thanks,” I said, still a little dazzled by his perfection.

“I’m a friend of Dave’s—Daphne’s brother.” He glanced around at the noisy throng. “Sorry I’m late. I’m working on this big report. I had to get it done.”

“You’re not late. We haven’t even had cake yet.”

He beamed. “Seriously? That’s the best part.”

“It totally is, isn’t it?” I giggled, nervousness edging my mirth. “And now you’re here we can get the party started.”

Lines like that were usually how I got all those losers in bed.

Except Scott blushed. And pulled his hand from behind his back to present me with a beautiful bouquet: red carnations set off by orange dahlias and yellow sunflowers, splashed with a touch of baby’s breath.

I think I gasped. It was by far the most romantic thing anyone had ever done for me.

After that, except for the few moments I was expected to blow out the candles on my cake, I found myself by Scott’s side the entire night.

“I came to thank you for my wine.” I said, standing closer to him than was necessary. My stomach was aflutter. Damn, he was sexy.

“It's a white zin,” he began, as if I were there for a wine lesson. Which, for the record, I so was not. “Not the best of wines, according to connoisseurs, but I bought it as a kind of foreshadowing.”

“Do tell.” I was biting my bottom lip, for the first time understanding why chicks in movies always did this. It prevented drooling, which, standing next to him, was a very real possibility.

“I plan to make you blush just as pink before the night is over.” He leaned in closer, his breath caressing my cheek as he spoke, everyone in the room disappearing except for him and me.

“I feel you may have accomplished that already, sir.” My cheeks were burning. He’d more than accomplished his goal.

Though Ford has aspirations beyond bartending, life seems to conspire against him. But when a curvy blonde with a guitar shows up, everything changes. Angelina just wants to play guitar. Will a hurricane, egotistical lead singer, and sexy bartender stand in her way?

Excerpt:
Ford drove his SUV through the rain-drenched streets of Fort Worth, his windshield wipers batting away the storm riding over them. In the passenger seat? His fantasy come true—Angelina Bluemel, soaked to the skin, her T-shirt doing little to hide her lush curves. Oh my my my. Mmhmm.

Eyes on the road, Ford. He snapped his gaze forward. Easing around a curve leading toward her house, he spotted the hyper red-and-blue strobes of police lights not far down the road. He slowed and, when an officer waved him down with his flashlight beam, stopped.

Ford lowered his window. “Evening, officer.”

“Evening.” Water dripped from the brim of his hat. “River flooded. Bridge is out. You’re gonna have to turn around right up there.” He aimed his light.

“Yessir.” He rolled his window up and wheeled his SUV onto the side road then backed out, heading the opposite direction.

“W-wait. I appreciate you giving me a lift home, but we can’t take a detour. The next nearest road to my house is miles from here, and it’s getting late.” She twisted to look out the rear window—giving him a perfect view of her perky breasts. And, damn, he almost swerved off the road. She faced front and sighed. “The other road’s probably washed out, too. Damn this hurricane. Just take me back to the bar.”

“Your car’s dead.”

“I know.” Defeat mixed with heavy sarcasm. “But it’s my car. No one can kick me out.”

He glanced at her. “You mean to sleep there?”

She looked out the passenger window. Yeah, that was her plan. And he’d be an ass to let her. At the next intersection, he took a right. Several miles later, he pulled into his driveway.

Angelina sat up. “This isn’t the bar.”

“Nope.” He pressed a button on the remote attached to his visor, and the garage door slid open.

“Whose house is this?”

He drove inside the garage, shut off the engine then pressed the button again. The door closed the storm outside. “Mine.”

“B-but…my car.”

“Is broken down.”

“I know. But….” Her eyes glistened with sudden tears. But then she swallowed, her spine becoming steel. “I can’t….”

“Sure you can. My SUV has more room than your little sedan.” He wanted to reach out, hold her hand, ease whatever pain she endured. But he’d no doubt she’d be insulted. So, he’d find other ways to make her feel better. “Or….”

“What?”

“I have a couch.” He opened his door, got out then leaned down to peer inside. His gut tightened at the sight of her beauty, her vulnerability—he wanted to make everything right for her. His dad’s words of wisdom came back to him. You got battles, Ford. Some yours. Some not. But you ain’t got to fight none of ’em alone. Angelina looked like a fierce fighter. “You hungry?”

Excerpt from Missing Pixie by Katherine Kingston

Blurb:
It started with an escaped pixie and then Lauren’s involvement with sexy Ryan Davidson and his daughter took a turn into the really bizarre.

Genre/theme:
Contemporary, Fantasy, Fairy tale, pixie, princess, BDSM

Excerpt:

“Ma’am? I’ve lost Violetta. I think she flew into your yard. Have you seen her?”

Lauren set down her book and turned toward the gate into her back patio. The little girl standing outside it, peering through the wrought iron scrolls, was maybe ten or eleven. Lauren had seen her a couple of doors down on occasion but had never talked to either her or the father. There didn’t seem to be a mother present. She went to unhook the latch and let the child into the tiny yard behind her apartment. “Is Violetta your doll?”

“No, she’s a pixie.”

“Oh. I don’t think I’ve seen her, but maybe you should describe her.”

“She’s about this tall.” The girl held her hands about six inches apart. “She has purple hair and greenish blue wings. Dad brought her here to keep me company, but then school started again and Violetta got mad ’cause I wasn’t around as much. She started hiding from me.” The girl wandered to the far end of the terrace where Lauren had planted a series of pots with colorful foliage and flowering plants. “I don’t see her back here.”

Lauren recalled what a grand thing a child’s imagination could be and refused to discourage her. “Maybe she just wanted some quiet time alone, so she’s hiding and she’ll come back later.”

“Maybe. She usually does after a while.”

The forlorn wistfulness of the child’s tone tugged at Lauren’s heart strings. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Cindy. Daddy and I are in the apartment on the other side of that one.”

“I know. I’ve seen you come and go occasionally.”

“I stay with my daddy now. He’s really a pretty good dad, I think, but sometimes I get bored. Especially on the weekends when I’m home.” She stared at the glass of lemonade on the patio table.

Lauren decided to take the hint. “Do you think your dad would mind if you had a glass of lemonade with me? And maybe a cookie?”

“Nah, I’m sure he wouldn’t. He tells me not to take stuff from strangers, but you’re a neighbor, not a stranger, right?”

“Well, I am still a stranger to you. But you know where I live. Have a seat and I’ll be right back.” Lauren brought out another glass of lemonade and a tray of cookies.

“This is kind of like having a tea party, isn’t it?” Cindy asked.

“It is a bit. Do you go to school around here?”

Cindy named a local school, said that she was in fourth grade there, and talked about her teacher, her favorite subjects, her friends, and the boy she had a crush on. She was in the middle of relating the virtues of Jimmy Scott when another voice drew their attention back to the gate.

“Cindy, what are you doing here?”

The deep, rough-edged tone sent a little shiver down Lauren’s spine. The owner matched the voice: tall, dark, and not quite handsome, but sexy as hell.

“We’re just having a talk, Daddy. Violetta came this way and I was chasing her, but she disappeared again. So Miss Lauren and I had some lemonade and talked.”

The man came through the gate, closing it behind him and approached the table. “That was nice of Miss Lauren to treat you. But it’s time to come home.”

Up close she could see that his eyes were light, a very pale blue, striking against his olive skin and dark hair. His reserved expression bordered on harsh. The power and masculinity he exuded sent shivers down her spine.
