“You should get one. You and your lady,” Rene said. “We get ours at Sinful Designs on the boardwalk. They do the best work.”
Ah, now he got it. “I suppose you two work there? Or own the business.”
She laughed. “You think we’re trying to drum up sales?”
Sam nodded.
“No, nothing like that. But there is something special about Sinful Designs that you won’t find at any other tattoo parlor.”
“Is that right?” Sam called over the bartender and ordered another beer and a drink for Rene. “Don’t take this the wrong way but are you two hitting on us?”
“Not exactly,” Perry said, looking up from his show-and-tell for Anita. “We saw you watching us earlier—”
“And you thought we’d like to hook up with you two,” Sam finished the sentence, sounding slightly annoyed but intrigued.
“That’s not it,” Rene said. “But I bet you wished you were out there having the most amazing sex with Anita. Am I right?”
“Sure,” Sam said.
Anita smiled nervously, then sipped more of her drink.
“What if I told you there was a way to increase your sexual enjoyment by at least ten times, be more adventurous, have longer hard-ons, and multiple orgasms?” Rene looked at Anita. “Anita, wouldn’t you love to have multiple orgasms whenever you willed them to happen?”
Anita rolled her eyes. “I have orgasms.”
“Four or five in one night, without being touched?”
“I’d say you’re full of shit,” Anita said.
Sam nearly choked on his beer. Anita Brooke never swore in front of strangers. She was getting drunk. Damn, he wasn’t getting any tonight.
“Do you believe in magic, the supernatural?”
“I try to keep an open mind.” Sam didn’t want to discount anything. But more than that, he wanted to see where this was going.
“Try one of these tattoos at Sinful Designs. Just one. I promise you won’t be disappointed,” Rene said. A look of fear flashed across her eyes and sent a shiver down Sam’s spine. She didn’t look the type to scare easily.
“Sounds too good to be true,” Sam said as he briefly fantasized a few possibilities—sex on the raft, sex with this couple, and a few positions Anita wasn’t crazy about trying. His cock throbbed as his heart pounded in his chest. The woman didn’t look like she was lying. Was business that bad that this tattoo parlor would think up this fantastical story to bring in a few customers?
Rene placed a hand on his arm. “Honest, Sam, we don’t make out financially if you get a tattoo. We’re just amazed by this woman. She’s a witch you know. Her name is Cassandra.”
“A witch?” Anita asked.
Rene smiled at Sam. “Trust me. You will have the most scorching sex you could ever imagine.”

Worlds Collide for an Exiled Witch, A Dragon Shifter & Sexy Space Pilot #SciFiRomance #NewRelease @KathyKulig

DRAGON WITCH by Kathy Kulig is book one in the new Dark Realms Series

Genre: SciFi Romance, paranormal, shapeshifter, ménage

The dragon protects her. But who will protect him?

She mixes science and magic in her life-saving potions for those who live on the harsh planet of Somerled.

Jaida Chel wants to forget her dark past and make a new home on the savage planet of Somerled. Her companion and protector is Kai, the last shapeshifting dragon. He’s powerful, willful, and overly possessive of her. So when Jaida’s ex-lover, Fleet pilot, Captain Brayden Stokes, re-enters her life, the trouble—and heated passion—begins.

Brayden loves Jaida, she’s the one woman in the galaxy who could convince him to give up the interstellar trade business and stay planetside. But his mission is about to turn her world upside down. He’ll do anything to rescue endangered colonists on a dying planet, but at what cost?

EXCERPT:

Finishing her chore, she turned to face him, a bit annoyed with his rudeness. But the man leaning casually in her doorway was not Mr. Moretti. He was tall, broad in the chest, with well-defined muscular arms and dark hair cut short.

With the sun so low in the sky Jaida could not see the man’s face. Nor could she guess who he might be. She swallowed, took a step back as her mind raced trying to recall the other settlers in the village who could fit the dimensions of this man but couldn’t.

A twinge of fear shot through her at the thought of space raids, but she hadn’t heard the sirens. “Are…are you here to pick up Mr. Moretti’s order?” she stammered. Who was this man? She glanced at her sarong, suddenly feeling exposed but hesitated to grab it because she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of showing her discomfort. “Did another freighter or shuttle arrive today?” she asked with her power voice, the confident tone used to evoke the goddess and nature spirits on this planet to do her spells.

The man chuckled. A familiar, sexy laugh. “Hello, Jaida.”

Her stomach twirled with excitement, her nipples tightened and her body ached with need, all from the sound of his voice. Damn you, Captain Brayden Stokes. Her heart ached too, although she thought she’d put that part of their brief encounter all behind her.

She breathed in the white sage, burning in a censer, in an attempt to block the erotic memories of Brayden that flooded her mind—his mouth, his hands pleasuring her. Closing her eyes, her thoughts drifted to many hot, passion-filled hours, making full use of every spare inch of his tiny, private bunk. She’d spent many lonely nights here on Somerled cursing him for leaving her.

An involuntary throb began between her thighs, remembering his hard cock plunging deep inside her. The sage did nothing to ease her desire. Crossing her arms over her waist in a casual pose, she then turned on an angle and crossed one ankle over the other in an attempt to hide her sex. She glared at his silhouette.

“Hello, Brayden. What brings you planetside?” she asked coolly.

“Taking leave for a few months.”

“Right,” she drawled out. “As I recall, you hate setting your feet on solid ground. Always had to have several million gallons of flammable propellant shooting your ass all over the far ends of the galaxy.”

He laughed. “I thought you liked my ass.”

Biting her lower lip, trying not to smile, she thought about the time on board his ship when she snuck into his cabin and found him in the coffin-sized shower. She teased him about his cute ass. Before she knew it, he’d pulled her into the shower, clothes and all.

How they managed such frenetic lovemaking in that small space, she would never know. But it got her hot all over every time she thought of it. Of all the men she had slept with in her adult years, and the number of relationships or encounters, she couldn’t remember one who’d groaned with as much pleasure. And it thrilled her to think she could bring a man to that state.

Goddess, she loved how it was with him in bed—stroking, touching, urgent needs, driven wild and intense, neither able to get enough of the other. She took a long, shuddering breath and walked to her sarong and slipped it over her head, securing the halter ties around her neck.

“Don’t get dressed on my account.”

Shaking her head, she glared at him as she walked past, picked up her bags of rice and flour and stepped back into her house. Three years hadn’t changed him, including his wiseass attitude. She glanced at his full lips and instantly remembered bruising, incendiary kisses. Damn him for loving what he does. He would always be a space drifter. His heart moving much too fast for any woman to capture. She shook off the sensation of sinking in the algae swamp and gave him a cool stare.

“Got tired of the illegal trade business? Now, you’re making deliveries for Moretti?”

“Legal goods, illegal trading,” he corrected. “Colonists on the Outer Rim like you wouldn’t survive otherwise.”

“And you make quite a profit. So why are you here?”

He shrugged his shoulders. “I told Moretti I was looking for work and also looking for you. He handed me the bags then pointed me toward your house.”

The short-sleeved, black shirt was completely unbuttoned showing off his muscular chest and flat abs. He also wore black pants and work boots—the Fleet pilot’s uniform, plain, but very rugged and sexy. She closed her eyes and swore silently. She wasn’t going to do this to herself again. He would be leaving in a day or so. Brayden was not the type to hang around.

“So when are you really leaving? Tomorrow?” Her tone had a bite to it, but she couldn’t help it. He’d hurt her when he dropped her off and left, barely saying goodbye.

He raised his eyebrows, hesitating. “A few months.”

She laughed. “Right. Outer Rim Fleet captains don’t get a few months off—ever. I know you, Brayden. You’re like a tiger that lives and hunts alone. And you have to keep moving. When it comes to space travel the more remote or insurmountable the journey, the better.”

“There are more credits in the longer runs,” he added.

“And no credits when you’re planetside.” She glared at him then lowered her voice. “What did you do? Did you kill someone?”

His expression darkened for a moment. He glanced away and murmured something she couldn’t decipher. She didn’t miss the twitch of disgust at his jaw. When he turned back to face her, he took a breath, then smiled suggestively.

“C’mon, Jaida. It’s been three years. Aren’t you glad to see me?”

Finding a Message in Your Books by @KathyKulig

As an author, do you write a message or have a specific theme in your books? As a reader do you look for messages, possibly hidden ones, within the books you read? And if you do discover a message, what ones are your favorite?

All these ideas came to mind after reading a blog post where an author asked: Do you have messages in your books? If so, how do your readers respond?

I think authors tend to write a similar theme in most every book they write, even if they write in different genres.

Here are a few themes:

  • without trust, true love won’t survive
  • good triumphs over evil
  • money can’t buy happiness
  • home is where the heart is
  • let go of the past to grow and move forward
  • money can’t buy love
  • the strength of family can overcome hardship
  • don’t be afraid to reach for your dreams
  • there’s no place like home
  • let go of fear and take a chance of love
  • with courage love finds a way

After writing several books, I realized that last one (with courage love finds a way) seems to be my message in my books. Most of mine have the hero and heroine struggling, sometimes for the lives, over an outside person or situation. This is common in many romance novels, and I think it’s what draws readers to this genre.

In my stories, there’s an element of danger or devastating disappointment if the hero or heroine doesn’t succeed through the obstacle. My books may touch on some of these other themes too, but courage appears to be the strongest element, besides the romantic element, that resonates with me. That’s why I like to write adventure-type stories.

So what types of themes do you like to read? Or do you like to write?
Another side thought that came to mind while reading that author's blog post was a question a young couple asked of me while I was on vacation recently. Dh and I were in Punta Cana and chatting with a nice young couple who had just got married. They were on their honeymoon!

We told them we had gotten married in the islands too(St. Lucia), but that was almost 16 years ago, and we were very happy. The groom asked me what our secret was to a happy marriage. What a great question for a young married couple to ask us older folks.

I said, have a good sense of humor even during tough times, do fun things together, and don’t sweat the little sh*t. They seemed to like that. Do you have any marriage advice for this young couple???

HIS LOST MATE, a sexy paranormal romance, is an example of 'with courage love will find a way' theme.

Excerpt:

“I think your lady is ready for another drink,” a tattooed guy said with a friendly tone. “Mind if my wife and I buy you two a drink?”

Anita stopped slurping the remnants of her cocktail and gave Sam a warning look. He loved his girlfriend dearly, but wished she wasn’t quite so conservative. This couple was just being friendly. But why did they decide to sit next to him and Anita?

Stop assuming the worst. Sam Quinn was used to expecting the worst in people—a side effect from working airport security. Terrorists at Seacrets were likely a low-risk concern. Perhaps this couple did have ulterior motives, like wife swapping. That wasn’t exactly Sam’s kink, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t have some fun chatting with them. “A drink? That’s nice of you to offer,” Sam said. “You don’t have to—”

“It’s our pleasure,” the woman added. “I’m Rene and this is my husband, Perry. We’re from Baltimore.” She rested her hands on the bar. On the back of Rene’s hand was a detailed rose tat. It looked 3D. Ink designs covered Perry’s hands too.

Sam introduced himself and Anita. Anita gave him a kick. He was going to get hell later, but the intricate detail of Rene’s tattoo was mesmerizing.

“Have you tried Swamp Water?” Perry asked Anita.

She looked confused.

“They’re good. They’re coconut rum, pineapple juice and Curaçao. Try one,” Rene said as she waved to the bartender and ordered two and a couple beers.

“We were about to leave, right Sam?” Anita shot him a look.

“Oh, you can hang for a drink,” Rene said. “It’s still early.”

Anita scowled at her murky green drink when it arrived but didn’t argue with Rene. Taking a sip, she smiled. “Mmmm. It is good.”

“What kind of work do you do, Sam?” Perry asked.

“TSA agent.”

“Interesting.” Perry locked his gaze with him. Red flags waved in the back of Sam’s mind.

As a TSA agent, Sam had an uncanny gift of reading people’s eyes, expressions and body language. Something in Perry’s gaze alarmed him. If someone had looked at him like that while going through his TSA check point, he would give them a pat down. What were his eyes telling him? A warning? Fear? A challenge or threat? Sam couldn’t figure it out. Something wasn’t right about these two. Or maybe he needed this vacation more than he thought.

“I’ve been admiring your tattoos,” Sam said as he watched their expressions. “Excellent work. It must’ve taken a long time to have those done. Were they all by the same artist?”

Perry and Rene exchanged a look. “Yes, she’s local,” Perry said. “On the boardwalk.”

“I don’t remember a tattoo parlor and we come here often.” Anita had sucked down half her drink. “What do you have on your neck?” she asked Perry.

Perry got up and sat on the stool next to her. Turning his head to the side, he elongated his neck, offering Anita a better view. “What would you call it?”

“It’s a dragon. A magnificent dragon. Look at all the colors.” While Perry pointed out his various tattoos, Rene showed the vine of roses coiling up her arm.

“Do the tats have specific meanings or stories?” Sam asked. “They’re very detailed.”

She laughed out loud. “Sort of.”

He noticed a shadow of sadness drift across Rene’s face. Anita was oblivious to his conversation. The designs on the man’s forearms enthralled her. She was literally staring. Fuck.

“Do you think tattoos are sexy?” Rene asked seductively.

“I guess.” He forced himself not to look at her deep cleavage and the tats that decorated her skin there. Man, he needed to take Anita back to the hotel and fuck her brains out before she got wasted on Swamp Water.

“How about mine?” Rene ran her hands over her arms, then stroked the tops of her breasts.

“Yes, I’d say so,” Sam replied. Holy shit, she was flirting with him. “There.” Rene eased the sleeve of Sam’s tee shirt up over his shoulder. “You have nice biceps and shoulders. The perfect place for tats.” Her fingernail drew imaginary designs on his arm.

He studied her with the narrowed gaze he reserved for troublemakers at the airport and added a cocky smile. “Think so?”

“Yes,” she breathed, leaning closer. “Men also look hot with tats on their calves and thighs. Her hand dropped to his knee, just below his cargo shorts. Would she slide those up too? His cock stirred. How much had she drunk?

Anita laughed. Sam glanced at Perry flexing his arm, making a scorpion tat appear to crawl. His girlfriend was amused.

“Have you ever thought about getting a tat?” Rene asked Sam with a sultry, teasing tone. “Or maybe you have one hidden?” She removed her hand from his knee. Sam released his breath. “No. I’ve thought about getting one. But I don’t have any.” Damn, it was getting warm. Was Rene coming on to him with her husband right there? He glanced back at Anita again. She was having another Swamp Water. Terrific.

“Try one of these tattoos at Sinful Designs. Just one. I promise you won’t be disappointed.” Rene paused. “Don’t be surprised if you go back for more like we did.” Eyes wide, she glanced around the night club’s grounds, looked over her shoulder, then forced a smile. There was no hiding that look of terror. Cold fear flashed across her eyes. What had her so afraid? She didn’t look the type to scare easily. A shiver slid down Sam’s spine.

“A witch?” Anita asked.

Rene smiled at Sam. “Trust me. You will have the most scorching sex you could ever imagine.”

10 Tips for Finding Writing Ideas #amwriting

Or...Tips on how to wake a sleeping writing muse
Are you a writer struggling to come up with the next unique story or series? Or an aspiring writing trying to come up with her first book idea. I think when your right brain, or creative side, kicks into gear, the creative energy and imagination flows. Some may call it the writer’s muse.

I’m equally amazed by the imagination writers have, and often wonder myself where they come up with ideas for so many clever stories.

These creative people shouldn't surprise me since I’ve been writing since I was a kid, and I’ve been published in fiction since 2004. Ideas truly come anywhere and at any time to writers.

Here are a few tips that might help, along with some examples, if you are a writer struggling to come up with the next best-selling book, or at least the next book you’re dying to write.

Tips for Finding Your Muse:

1.   Slow down and be aware of your surroundings. Writers tend to notice details that the average person doesn’t. They’ll notice a person who is dressed unusually, something that looks out of place, a strange object, a fine detail of a beautiful scene that others didn’t see, a subtle detail in a movie that foreshadows an upcoming event, subtext in a book, overhear a piece of conversation, notice an animal about to cut across the road, smell fresh cut grass or the scent of a fire.

2.   Read tons and tons of books in and out of your genre. This is probably the best tip for finding ideas. Not only for coming up with book ideas, but for understanding how stories come together and are plotted out.

3.   Travel to new locations for story ideas. You don’t have to travel to far off places to come up with story ideas. While jogging in the cemetery at the end of my street, I came up with a connecting story for my current vampire series. Vacations or day trips can help kick in that right brain for idea for settings or atmospheres.

4.   If you’re a visual learner, try viewing photos or movies for ideas. I do tend to be a visual learner. I can search various picture on Instagram or Pinterest and come up with some ideas. One book idea came to me while standing in line for a Disney ride. I saw a fantasy picture on the wall and a story instantly started running through my mind. The book became a futuristic/dystopian novel. It’s out of print now, but I hope to publish it again soon.

5.   Brainstorm with other authors. My writers’ group gets together in the summer for a plotting pool party. We each get a turn to talk about a book we may be having problems with, or share the spark of an idea for a new story. The other writers will toss out ideas for possible plot points which gives lots of ideas. Sometimes you can brainstorm with non-writer people. I was talking with my husband about coming up with a new book idea. I wanted it to be sexy and intense. I was having dinner out with hubby and he said: How about ‘Bondage in the Whitehouse.’ That one line stirred up ideas for a series with Red Tape and Red Tape Protector. They’re a romantic suspense series with BDSM elements.

6.   Writers Brainstorm Kit or other GMC Method. Sometimes I’ll use a book The Writer’s Brain Storming Kit by Pam McCutcheon and Michael Waite. It might not be in print anymore. But there are others like it. This system had cards too. You can begin by focusing on a character’s personality traits, goals, motivations, conflicts. Then think about what type of situation you’d like to place this character. Make it a situation where the character has to make difficult choices.

7.   Dream and meditate. It’s hard to be creative when daily life invades your thoughts. Day job and family demands, household chores, email, etc. Sitting in a quiet place and shutting off the external and internal ‘noise’ may help kick you muse awake. Jot down unusual dreams or thoughts. Perhaps they’ll lead to a story down the road.

8.   Change of scenery. Similar to traveling, sometimes taking a walk, going for a hike and getting out in nature, going to a museum or library, shopping, going to a restaurant, exercise. Talk or interview people with unusual jobs. Some ideas come while showering, cooking doing other creative projects.

9.   Listen to music. Calming the mind, hearing the words of a song or just the music can spark ideas.

10.  Or just start writing. Pick a scene, a character and start asking questions: Where am I? Who is this character? Why is he/she here? What do they what? What is their problem? What if….?

Do you have any special methods for coming up with a book idea?

Genre Hopping - Do Readers Love It, or Hate It?

Writing in Multiple Subgenres by Kathy Kulig

It’s not unusual for romance writers to write several types (sub-genres) of romance—historical, paranormal, contemporary, erotica, sci-fi, futuristic, romantic suspense, YA, steampunk, etc.

And some manage to combine two or more of the above called mashups.

I’ve written in paranormal, sci-fi, futuristic with steampunk elements, and paranormal/shapeshifters, contemporary, romantic suspense, and vampires which may fit under fantasy or paranormal.

Why do authors write in different genres instead of sticking to one? Wouldn’t staying in one be the best way to build a loyal following of fans? Possibly, or maybe it doesn’t matter. There are several reasons why authors chose to genre hop.

The demands of readers, editors and agents change constantly. Tastes and favorites change. One moment paranormals are the hot item, months later, no one wants them. Contemporary or military is hot now! Then inspirationals are in demand. Like body surfing waves at the beach. Maybe you get lucky and ride the crest, or unlucky and end up swimming to shore without any momentum.

I started out writing paranormal/sci-fi. My true love. I read it voraciously as a kid, minus the romance, now I love writing it with the added romance and sexy parts.

My first published novel was paranormal with a small press. While I was submitting to NY publishers and agents, I submitted paranormals, until my rejections letters started saying, “Your writing is good, love the story, but we’re not signing any paranormal stories at this time.” So I tried contemporary, romantic suspense, etc., partly as a test of my writing skill, but also to follow or adapt to the market needs. The process was frustrating, but I don't regret it.

There are benefits to writing in various subgenres
  • You develop fresh writing skills and techniques for the different genres.
  • You may find a creative outlet or strengths you didn't know you had.
  • You may become a more effective storyteller, plotter, character developer, etc.
  • The new techniques and skills may open new opportunities for writing projects. Short stories, novellas, series, etc.
  • If you're in a slump or hit writer's block, writing something different might stir your creativity.

Now that I’m not actively pursuing a traditional publisher or agent at this time, I’m back to writing what I truly love – paranormals –vampires and shifters.

As a reader and/or writer, how do you feel about authors who write in multiple genres? Do you like to read in various genres? Or do you prefer authors who have huge series?

Excerpt:

“Dinner?” Jack asked, an easy smile greeting her at the opened doorway to her cottage.

“Jack! Hi.” Dana’s stomach gave a bit of a flutter. She knew he was probably looking at her opened suitcases with clothes piled all over the bed. Once she’d had her harp, she’d given up unpacking to practice. It’d been over two weeks since she’d played. Usually if she went more than a day she started climbing the walls. “What?” Sometimes when she played her harp she’d get so disconnected from the world. It took her a second to understand what he asked. “A little early for dinner, isn’t it? I was going to find a market in town for groceries. I can cook something here.”

His eyebrows rose. “It’s twenty minutes to town. I doubt you’ll have time if you plan to make the meeting.”

“I have all afternoon.” She checked her watch. It was nearly five p.m. “Oh my God. I was playing for four hours.” She suddenly realized she was hungry. “I guess I’ll have to go after the meeting.”

Jack shook his head. “Bet you didn’t have lunch either.”

She didn’t answer.

“Follow me,” he ordered, walking off her porch, not waiting for her to answer.

“Hang on, let me get my sweatshirt.” Dana sorted through the clothes on her bed and found her sweatshirt and put it on. She slipped the room key in her pocket and felt an object like a large coin. She pulled it out and studied it. Not a coin, but the intricate detail of an old brooch. Made of either bronze or copper, a coiled design like a labyrinth circle sat in the center surrounded by Celtic knots.  Weird. She didn’t remember anyone giving her the brooch, and wondered if it was an artifact and maybe she could be in trouble for having it. She turned it over and found nothing carved on the back. The idea that someone must’ve slipped it in her pocket was unsettling and a little annoying.

“Dana?” Jack called from her porch.

“Coming.” She placed the brooch in a drawer and planned to take it back to the castle later, then rushed out of her cottage, locked her door, and ran to catch up to him. “Where are we going?” she asked Jack.

He didn’t answer and kept walking. She hesitated for a moment then decided to see what he had in mind. Jack had to go to the meeting too. Maybe he knew a local place where she could get a quick bite.

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“Jack’s place.”

“And why are we going to your place?” she asked. He gave her a sexy grin and her pulse kicked up a few beats. The sexy voice she remembered hearing on the phone certainly matched the rugged good looks of the man before her. Following him gave her a nice view of him from the back, from wide shoulders, to the tight ass in snug jeans to boots.

He glanced over his shoulder and shot her a dark look from blue-gray eyes. “Trust me.” His cottage had the same layout as hers—the kitchenette at the front of the cottage, the bed with a red patterned duvet and a loveseat in the back. It was neat and organized except for several boxes stacked in one corner, a laptop computer on the small dining table and a bicycle propped against a wall. A wide window overlooked the forest behind the cottages.

In the kitchenette, he took out pots and pans, sliced brown bread and removed an enormous amount of food from the refrigerator.

“I don’t want you to go to any trouble,” she said.

“Shepherd’s Pie is no trouble. It’s dinner. Have a seat. It won’t take long. But this kitchen is too small for two people.” He handed her silverware and pointed to one of two chairs at the small dining table. After fixing them both a cup of tea, he went to work on their meal.

“Thanks, Jack.” She watched him boil the potatoes and prepare a meat filling. As he added rosemary, thyme and other spices to the bubbling mixture, Dana inhaled the savory aroma. “Mmm. That smells wonderful.”

“Won’t be long.” He added the meat and vegetable mixture to a casserole dish and covered it with mashed potatoes, then slid it into the oven.

He sat at the table and poured more tea. “How long have you been playing the harp? Is that your full-time job?”

She tightened the grip around her mug, suddenly reminded the fulfillment of her dream was only temporary. “I’ve been playing the harp since I was eight years old. I dreamed of playing in a symphony someplace, but my parents felt that dream was not practical so I went to school for electrical engineering and work designing security systems. Not very glamourous but it pays the bills.”

He frowned. “Sounds like you don’t like it much.”

She shrugged. “It’s okay.”

“Do you get to play your harp in other concerts?”

She stared at the table and grasped her hands in her lap. “No, I play for my own pleasure.”

“That’s sad.”

She looked at him and smiled. “I enjoy playing. I don’t need an audience.”

He grunted.

“How long have you been doing the show?”

He leaned back with his mug and took a sip. “Couple years. It’s a part-time job and doesn’t pay much. I also manage my uncle’s store. Before the show, I worked in the woolen mills factory. I hated it. I’m trying to buy out my uncle’s shop so he can retire. I’m waiting to see if the bank will cooperate. If not, I’ll return to the mills.”

“I hope it works out for you.”

Jack got up and took the casserole out of the oven, served portions on two plates and cut slices of the homemade bread. “How do you like it? Good?” he asked after she’d tasted it.

“This is great. You didn’t bake the bread, did you?”

He laughed. “No. I’ll take you to the market in the morning and show you around town, including the bakery.”

“That’s really nice of you.” She glanced around his cottage. “What do you sell at your uncle’s store?” She devoured the shepherd’s pie. Have to love a guy who could cook.

“Woolens and leather goods.”

“I’ll have to stop by and check it out. I’m sure I could use a sweater in this weather. Ireland’s summers are cooler than I’m used to.” Something about the way the man looked at her made her squirm in her seat. Not in a bad way. He had the most gorgeous blue eyes, sensual, intense but at the same time calming. “Not the season for leather though. Too warm and too much rain.”

Jack smiled. “Leather never goes out of season.” The look he gave her spread heat and longing through her. It was a very bad idea to get involved with someone considering she would leave in three months. “Leather goods provide our largest sales in the summer.” His voice lowered. “Some of our clientele have special requests.”

The way he said it made her feel strangely aroused. Her nipples tingled and hardened and her pussy throbbed. “Should I ask?”

He shrugged. “Fetish wear and bondage equipment. More pie?” He got up and spooned another serving of shepherd pie.

She swallowed. “No, thanks. I’ve had enough.”

His gaze locked with hers as if he was testing her, waiting to see if she’d react to the comment about leather goods. This reminded her of a business deal. Was he playing games with her? If he was, she wasn’t going to let him rile her. “Interesting. And what’s your best-selling SM device?”

Smiling he said, “Floggers, then various restraints. A lot of people enjoy pain.”

“Mmmm.” She said it in a tone as if they spoke about the weather or a favorite movie.

“What do know of the SM scene?” He was serious, the teasing tone gone.

She took in a breath. Images of the couple in the castle’s dungeon flashed in her mind. Heat flowed through her like warmed honey. Her pussy felt wet and achy. “Not a lot. I read some about it.
Curious, I guess.”

He smiled. “Fantasized then?”

She choked on the last spoonful of her dinner. “Wow, this conversation got personal. From groceries to bondage to sexual fantasies.” Her voice shook and her whole body heated. Exhilarated by the topic, she pressed her thighs together as her pussy clenched and pulsed. Damn, this man had her worked up now, and she’d only just met him. “Why didn’t you mention this in your emails?”

“You mean about working in a store?”

She laughed nervously. “I mean about the SM products you sell.”

He shrugged. “I didn’t want to scare you off. We needed a harpist and your cousin highly recommended you.”

“I don’t scare too easily.” She smiled. God, was she flirting? Yes, she was flirting and wasn’t he her coworker?

“What does scare you?” He shot her a self-satisfied grin.

Her mind went to the couple in the dungeon. Had they bought leather items from Jack’s store? Was she scared by what she’d seen? Or intrigued? This time she shrugged. “I’ll have to let you know.”

“I’ll count on that,” he lowered his voice and heat flowed through her. “We should go to the castle.”
“What?” she breathed. Dana’s heart fluttered as she thought about Jack tying her up in the dungeon. So soon? He didn’t waste any time.

“The meeting is starting in a few minutes. What did you think I meant?”
“Nothing.”
