Blurb: Blake sees Xavier agonizing over unclaimed gift tags for poor children on the holiday tree. Will Blake tell Xavier about his past and his problem?

Excerpt:
Blake stood and walked behind Xavier’s chair, resting his hands gently on Xavier’s shoulders, and then massaging them. Xavier felt his tight muscles loosen a little as Blake’s fingers dug into the tense tissues, working on the knots, Blake’s thumbs pressing and rolling into each bump.

Xavier rotated his neck and head, and then leaned forward, relaxing into Blake’s firm touch. “Hmm, that feels good.”

Blake moved his hands around, pressing and working all the stiff areas until there were no hard lumps left. His hands stilled momentarily before he slid them down Xavier’s back and up under his sweater and shirt. They glided over the taut back muscles, up Xavier’s spine and around over his sides, down, then up again. This time his fingers moved around to the solid chest wall.

Blake’s fingers stilled over Xavier’s nipples, the firm little discs already standing to attention.

Xavier stood, turned into Blake’s arms, and wrapped his own around Blake. “Maybe it’s time to move this party into the bedroom?” The two men were almost the same height, a mere fraction under six feet, so Xavier tilted his head to the side to kiss his friend.

The kiss was sweet and gentle, a brief butterfly touching of lips to lips, until Blake grabbed Xavier’s head and held it still so he could lick along the seam of Xavier’s mouth. As Xavier opened up, Blake’s tongue slid inside, teasing and tasting and testing. First along the insides of his cheeks, then behind his teeth, and finally to tangle and dance with Xavier’s tongue.

Blake’s fingers burrowed into Xavier’s black hair where it curled on his collar at the back of his neck.
Blake stroked the neck underneath the curls, angling the other man’s mouth more fully over his own, then sucked Xavier’s tongue into his own mouth.

When they finally drew apart, both men were panting, not just from lack of oxygen, but also from the power and passion of their kisses.

Blake pulled Xavier hard against him from hips to chest, his arms like steel bands around the other man. Their cocks rubbed against each other, two long, hard ridges, their heat obvious even through the layers of clothing. “Want you. Need you,” he whispered.

“Hell, yeah. I want you, too.”

Chapter One
New Brooklyn, Luna
Chanukah, 2114

Thank God it was the end of the evening. Turning her back on her date, Shayna wiped her mouth on her sleeve and closed the sli-door to seal the pod with a disgusted flick of her finger. She stomped into the kitchen, where the mild aroma of hydroponically grown coffee lingered.

“So what was wrong with this one?” her mother asked, cradling a mug.

She bent to kiss her mother’s cheek, hiding her blush. She wasn’t going to discuss her date’s make-out style with her ema. “He, umm, he hovers.”

“He vacuums? Shayna, what are you talking about?”

“Not Hoovers, ema, he hovers. He practically breathed down my neck when I ate my latkes.” She carried her mother’s empty mug to the sonic cleaning unit. Hoovering didn’t begin to describe what her date did with his mouth. She considered herself lucky to escape him with her tongue, teeth and tonsils uninjured. She liked deep kissing, but spraining her tongue at the root was a no-no.

“Such a nice boy, and a doctor to boot.”

“He’d make me meshugah.”

“You’ll have to go to the matchmaker for a shidduch.”

Her jaw tightened as she put the mug inside the unit, then tapped a button. The soni-cleaner hummed. “Please, no. I’m capable of finding a husband for myself.”

“You’ve been dating since you were sixteen. You’ve gone out with every single man in New Brooklyn, most more than once,” her mother said. “I don’t know what you’re looking for.”

Shayna’s mind flashed on the image of a tall dark man with smiling gray eyes and a demanding kiss.

Her mother continued, “This one hoovers, that one’s too short... There’s no alternative. If you don’t marry soon, you’ll have to go live on Earth. You know the rules.”

Shayna cast a fearful look upward. She’d never been to her home planet and didn’t want to go. Earth consisted of armed enclaves surrounded by post-Apocalyptic mishegass. On Earth, a Jew was safe only in Beverly Hills, Miami, and Israel.

Those who’d created New Brooklyn had dreamed of completely safe, wholly Jewish outposts on a pristine worldlet. Because of the harsh conditions, stringent rules governed conduct. Skilled personnel were at a premium, forcing the able-bodied to work and produce young to continue this, their great experiment. At twenty-four, she was pushing the age limit.

“All right.” She sighed. “I’ll try a shidduch.”

* * * * *

The next morning, Shayna tapped at the sli-door of Rivka Markowitz’s tiny office. Trained as a cultural anthropologist, Dr. Rivka Markowitz was a valued member of New Brooklyn, not merely because she kept the peace and the laws as a member of the Bet Din ruling council, but she played matchmaker. In a small, tight community, the strength of family bonds was crucial. The men and women who had to marry and bear children while young had to be assured of appropriate mates. Thus, the value of a skilled matchmaker who could create a successful shidduch, an arranged marriage that would flourish.

The door opened, revealing Rivka’s podlet, cluttered with bones, skulls and other unnerving detritus of the anthropologist’s calling. Shayna sneezed, the dust from the artifacts tickling her nose.

Rivka, a diminutive brunette dressed in the same silvery Slicksuit everyone wore, looked up. “Ah, Shayna Goldstein. I’ve been expecting you.”

Shayna moved a stack of infodiscs and sat in the armchair Rivka indicated. “And which of the gossipy yentas infecting this town tattled?”

“Your ema called ahead. She thought it would be polite.” Rivka smiled. “But I’d expected you long before this day. Couldn’t handle the way Harold Mechlin smells, or how Jim Abrams kisses?”

Shayna burst out laughing. She bet that Rivka was good at her job. She’d put Shayna at ease in the wink of an eye. “I needed a towel, the way he slobbers. And the sucking! I had to check to make sure my teeth were still in place.”

“So I’ve heard. I’ll get him married somehow,” Rivka said. “All of the emas think that their sons are such princes that they won’t come to me. But everyone ends up here eventually.”

“Everyone?”

“Just about. Very few on Luna entrust their futures to a random selection process based on hormones.” After opening a drawer, she withdrew a carved wooden box. “Sometimes they merely want their choice confirmed. Others, like you, can’t quite make up their minds.” She passed the box to Shayna.

She lifted the lid, then raised her brows. “Tarot cards?”

Rivka winked. “Most people don’t know the tarot is based on the Zohar, ancient Jewish mysticism. These cards have been modified to receive the emotional and mental vibrations of the user, and I've programmed them with the identities of all the single folk on Luna. Go on, take them out.”

The tarots felt peculiarly heavy and greasy in Shayna’s hands. If they were programmable, that accounted for their weight since each card would contain chips or computers of some sort. Dubious, she flipped them through her fingers. They vibrated gently, perhaps responding to her thought waves or whatever. Sounded kinda hocus-pocus to feet-on-the-ground Shayna.

“Divide the deck into three on the desk, here.”

Shayna followed Rivka’s direction.

“Turn over the top card on each stack.”

Shayna obeyed. “Colonel Mustard, in the library, with the candlestick?”

Rivka frowned as Shayna mocked the old and honored game of Clue. She tapped a finger on the first card, which depicted a dark moon beneath a sky full of stars. The Earth, normally a constant companion in the heavens, was absent.

“You are to go to Farside,” Rivka said.

“Farside!” A chill zipped up Shayna’s back despite her Slicksuit, designed to keep body temperature stable.

Rivka tossed the second card at Shayna. It showed a circle of dancers in a festive scene. “The Chanukah party at Farside. You will see your intended there.”

“How will I know him?”

Rivka held up a third, last card, which depicted a dark man. A head taller than his companions, he regarded them with an air of authority. Another shiver chased the first up Shayna’s spine. This was her mate, her one true love?

A dark man. Could it be…?

“Barack Obama?” Shayna hid her nerves with a quip about the first African-American president of the now-defunct U.S. republic.

Rivka glared.

“Sorry.” Shayna shrank back into her seat. “But there are many dark males here. I’m sure Farside is no exception.”

“Your intended will know you. Few moon children are red-headed, remember?”

“But who is he?”

Rivka smiled. “The only possible mate for you.” She shuffled the tarots together before putting them away.

“But I don’t want to live on Farside!”

Rivka’s smile disappeared. “Why not?”

“I want to stay in New Brooklyn. I was born here. This is my home.” Shayna rose to pace, as best she could, Rivka’s tiny podlet office.

“Apparently it’s time you left the cocoon.” Rivka tapped the top of the carved box. “The programming in these tarots has a reliability factor of over ninety-nine and forty-four one-hundredths percent. I assure you, your mate is correctly selected.”

“But why do I have to go?” Shayna wailed.

“‘Whither thou goest, I shall go.’”

She recognized the ancient words from the book of Ruth, and her shoulders slumped.

“It is time for you to commit to something beyond yourself, Shayna maydel.”

Blurb: Hunter and Lani never expect to find love from a near tragedy.

Excerpt:

Leilani Kolbiaw watched, fascinated as First Officer Zane and Barb greeted each other. It was so good to have the first officer here, especially since Captain Joe wasn’t. Lani sniffled a couple of times, but didn’t allow tears to fall. It didn’t matter that she hadn’t even spoken to Cap before Flight 817; they’d become fast friends afterward and she missed him so much. It wasn’t fair that a hero like him had died so young.

Okay, young was a relative term but he’d had a lot of living left to do, and a drunk driver had ruined that for him, for his family, and for all of those he’d touched in his fifty-six years of life.

Sometimes life was colossally unfair.

At least Hunter Zane was here. Lani hadn’t seen much of him on the Facebook page, or the private email list some of the survivors chatted on. He was still subscribed, but he didn’t seem to say much.

Maybe he was a man of few words, or maybe it was just too hard on him. There were people for whom the crash had been a wake-up call, reminding them to live every moment, and there had been some for whom the crash had been only a painful memory to be eradicated.

Lani felt so sad for those people.

Lani kept to the shadows, openly admiring First Officer Zane, though that title was way in the past. It hadn’t been more than a couple of years after Flight 817 that he’d retired from flying commercially. He’d only been to a few of these reunions cum group therapy session cum drinking weekend, though Joe had tried to drag him every year. She wished Joe had been more successful. There had been fire between her and Hunter. Lani had kissed Hunter just after the crash, when her emotions had been at their highest, and she’d needed proof—irrefutable proof—that she and her grandmother were safe and alive.

It had started out that way, anyway, but the kiss had deepened, until First Officer Zane had pulled away, scrubbing his hand over his face, and had told her he was married. He couldn’t do that.

But now, he had no wedding ring on, and there was something about his bearing that made her think he was totally and completely aware of her, even though she had sunk back into the darkness in a corner of the room.

Her nipples tightened and pussy clenched. God, how she wanted that man! Lani had been sure that they would get together some day; their attraction had been wild and untamed. Yet Hunt had never made the move, and Lani wasn’t sure she should.

Giving Thanks

‘Tis the season for giving thanks, and I have a lot to give.

About this time last year, I was going through a low phase. I’d been laid off from my job and I just wasn’t sure where to go with my work. Even more problematic—I wanted to write and I finally had the time to write, but I wasn’t quite sure how to reboot my career.

Enter the Naughty Literati. Suddenly writing didn’t seem quite so daunting. The sharing of time and energy, of creative talents and the determination and talent in the group is humbling. I made my first small steps back into publishing with my story in Naughty List, which is called Holdin’ On. On one level, it is about a Christmas miracle, but on another, it is a clear second chance for the hero.

So when the call came out for stories about second chances, for the winter holiday anthology Naughty Chances, I took stock of things. With Naughty List, not only had my character gained a second chance, but my writing career did as well. A seven year writing block had been successfully conquered word by word, and my peers actually liked the story! So did readers—thank you so much for taking a chance on me!

A year later, the Naughty Literati has released five anthologies and I’ve had a story in each of them. Coming very soon is Naughty Chances, and my story in it, Take a Chance, is as thematic as Holdin’ On was. Instead of an ill rock star and the woman who saves him, my hero and heroine in Take a Chance survived a miracle crash landing some years ago. There had been an attraction between them that they’d never explored, but the stars align right this year and neither has anything to lose, except their hearts.

A lot has changed for me personally and professionally in the last year, and so much has been due to being a part of the Naughty Literati. So today, I’m giving thanks to every author who had faith in my work, every reader who gave precious time and energy reading my words.

Thank you, and happy holidays!

Blurb: My day from hell took a delightful turn when I woke up naked next to the most gorgeous man. But he’d bitten me and claimed I was his mate. Oh my!

Genre/theme: Shape-shifter

Excerpt:
Bolting upright in bed, I clutched the sheet to my chest. My nude chest. My gaze shot around the room wildly, taking in the pertinent details. Sun shining in the window told me it was morning but I didn’t recognize my surroundings.

Holy crap! I was nude, in a strange room, in a strange bed with a strange man lying facedown next to me. Easing out of the bed so as not to disturb the sleeping man, I wrapped the sheet tightly around myself and backed up until I hit a wall, never taking my eyes off him.

What the fuck? Had someone slipped me a roofie at the club? I searched my memory and the last thing I remembered was walking away from my broken down car.

Doing an overall body check, my calves and feet were sore from walking and there was an odd throbbing at the curve where neck met shoulder but otherwise everything felt normal. No soreness or ache between my legs, thank goodness.

At least if I had to get abducted it had been by one hell of a gorgeous man. Damn was he ever ripped. Olive-toned skin stretched over more than six feet of muscular perfection. And his tight ass…wow. That was the kind of ass poets wrote sonnets about. An image of those well-muscled cheeks flexing as he thrust…

Cutting of that unruly train of thought, I noticed his thick black hair fanned out across the pillow he clutched with one powerful arm. His face was turned from me but framing his face the hair color varied from almost pure white to charcoal gray.

Images of a big black lion with the same coloring to its mane around his face filled my head, bringing back my hallucinations of talking to a lion while sitting under a tree last night. Was that last night? Perhaps I had been drugged after all. Sure would explain those odd imaginings.

There was something about the man. I didn’t know him yet I felt as if we shared a connection. Just looking at him created an ache in my chest. And I felt an almost magnetic force pulling me toward him. Everything in me wanted to crawl back into that bed and surround myself with his warmth.

I shook my head in an attempt to displace the odd sensations but it didn’t work.

The man stretched, extended his arm over the empty side of the mattress where I’d been and mumbled, “Come back to bed, Harper.”

He knew my name? How did he know me when I’d never met him? Trust me—having met such a magnificently gorgeous man is not something I’d ever forget.

When I didn’t budge, he rolled over and sat up, making no attempt to cover his nudity. Not that such sheer perfection should be concealed. The sinuous roll and play of muscle beneath taut skin as he moved was mesmerizing. My gaze traveled over a face that belonged on magazine covers, from dark eyebrows over beautiful amber-flecked brown eyes, down the straight slash of a nose to the sexiest lopsided grin and a strong jaw shadowed with just the right amount of dark stubble.

Unable to resist, I continued my journey taking in his broad shoulders, sculpted square pecs, what had to be an eight-pack abdomen, and then landed on…

Oh. My. While I’m no blushing virgin, I had never seen a monster cock like that before. With his knees slightly bent and spread, I had an unobstructed view. Semi-hard and it was still larger than any I’d previously encountered. And he had a full natural hoodie that had never been cut.

Could I take him? Sure would be fun to find out. Unconsciously licking my lips, I wondered how much of him would fit in my mouth. His cock jerked, elongated and thickened. Oh yeah. I definitely wanted to give that a nice long ride.

“Harper,” he growled. “Keep giving me that sex kitten stare and this is going to get really real, really fast.”

Excerpt:
“I reckon the intelligence from Lieutenant Hawkins has kept you busy of late.”

Sam’s baritone filled the deafening void, shrinking the cozy space.

Pat blew out a smoke ring. “Yeah. He’s a funny one. Quiet, until something irks him. Then he just raves outrageously.” The hazy ring twisted and twirled in the air. “Charming accent, though. I could listen to him ticking off inventory entries for hours.”

Sam shifted his weight. “I didn’t know you found British accents so captivating.”

“I didn’t know either until Hawkins—”

Pat stopped. Sam’s comment wasn’t about Hawkins. “Maybe not so much the accent. Maybe it’s the rich masculinity of his voice I find attractive.”

Sam pursed his lips and stared at the floorboards again.

“Or the fact he looks a little like you. His hair the same brown,” Pat glanced at Sam’s disheveled queue, “although perhaps styled with less disarray.”

A rosy hue tinged Sam’s cheeks.

“His eyes are just a bit more gray than yours. Less blue.”

Sam lifted his gaze to meet Pat’s.

As he stood, Pat set his pipe in a small salt-glazed bowl on the desk. “He’s not much older than you. Perhaps twenty-seven.” He surveyed Sam from head to toe. “His body’s lean, vigorous, much like yours.”

Sam crossed his arms and looked askance.

Pat took two steps toward him and placed a hand on Sam’s forearm. “I have no interest in Hawkins,” he said gently, “and he has no interest in me—in men. Trust me. But I find a curious pleasure in being with him. I can only deduce it’s because I miss being with you.”

A bloom of color brightened Sam’s face. “You do?”

“I do.” Pat loosened the knot of Sam’s arms. “But what with training quartermasters to be soldiers, fighting a dogged enemy, and burying the dead, it’s been difficult to get a moment.” He took one more step forward.

Sam’s breath quickened in time to the thrum of Pat’s excited pulse. “You should get a promotion for taking over when I was injured.”

Pat reached for Sam’s hand. “I didn’t do it for rank, Sam. I did it for freedom and I did it for you.” Sam’s fingers were still cold despite his earlier attempt at warming them in the fire.

Sam flushed. “I don’t deserve you.”

A surprising thing to say given Pat’s perfidious behavior.

Sam must have seen the surprise on his face. “I’ve been a bloody fool for shutting you out, Pat. You’re the best friend I’ve ever had.”

Friends. Is that what they were? It felt like something decidedly more than that.
