Spooky, Sexy, Haunting Heroes #eroticromance by Kathy Kulig

Hey Gang! Are you ready for Halloween? Something about this time of year that gets me in the mood for supernatural/paranormal books, movies and heroes. Romance writers know how to write alpha supernatural heroes especially those Vampires, shapeshifters, aliens, ghosts, demons and more.

Who are your favorites??? I know the popularity of vampires seem to come and go, but they’re always one of my favorites. I started with the Anne Rice vampire series when they first came out, and later fell in love with JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I’m also a fan of shifters. I’ve written a number of these books and will get these out in the future.

Since I was a kid, I was hooked on ghost stories, and I have tons of books. Even a number of ‘true’ local folk tales. Every city and state have their traditional ghost stories, and if you take a ghost tour, you may learn some interesting facts and creepy history.

Dh and I have been on a number of ghost tours: Key West, New Orleans, and New Hope, PA. All had great eerie stories from present day to hundreds of years ago. We’ve stayed in a couple B&B’s known to have haunting histories. More on that in other blog posts.

So if you like Spooky, Sexy, Haunting stories, check out Naughty Literati’s Naughty Haunts I’ve read these stories and there’s plenty to satisfy that paranormal urge.Eleven Spooky Love Stories including BBW, BDSM, contemporary, MM, Menage, New Adult, Paranormal, Shapeshifter, Speculative fiction, Stepbrother, and Witch Romance from bestselling authors writing as The Naughty Literati.

I'd also Like to recommend a sexy ghost story mystery romance of mine too!
His Lost Mate - Seduced by the sultry jungle and a supernatural connection, two archaeologist, Lauren and Deven, are lured into a forbidden and passionate affair. But with the help of an ancient shaman ghost, and Lauren's psychic visions, they must battle a dark entity before Lauren falls victim to the deadly evil.

If you do check out His Lost Mate, thank you! Just a note: I recently created a new author newsletter: Kathy's Hot News and the link for my mailing list inside the books is wrong. Click HERE if you'd like to check out my new Sexy Tips and Steamy Romance column, be included in monthly gift card drawing, exclusive reads, contests and more.

Sooo, who are your favorite supernatural heroes and books???

Featuring Pleasuring Pandora by Tina Donahue

Blurb:

This luscious cowboy’s been on her radar for years, but he’s never noticed her. A speeding ticket changes everything, leading to a sultry weekend and no-holds-barred romance—Texas style.

Excerpt:

Well into night, the temperature and humidity remained brutal. Pandora had never sweated so much, her condition having nothing to do with the shitty weather.

Her BFFs, Lupe Torres and Simone Johnson noticed she hadn’t fallen in step with them. They crossed the gravel lot back to her. Lupe adjusted her sequined top. “You’re seriously not staying out here, are you?”

Better than to go inside Boots and do something foolish. “I told you I didn’t want to be here.”

Simone bobbed in time to the band’s rendition of Carrie Underwood’s latest hit, the music blaring from the cavernous roadhouse. “Maybe Jack won’t come tonight.”

And pigs would don high heels and dance. He’d surely come in more ways than one.

On tiptoes, Lupe scanned the lot, her too-tight jeans forcing her to take itty-bitty steps or risk ripping a seam. “You might be right. I don’t see his pickup.”

“He could have hitched a ride with someone else.” Possibly the young women in the red convertible. Nope. The vehicle wasn’t anywhere in the lot. Hope fluttered. Reality killed it. “He’ll be here sooner or later, and I don’t want to see him. He caught me smelling his license. If he doesn’t think I’m nuts, he probably figures I’m weird.”

“Look on the bright side.” Simone smiled without parting her lips. She hadn’t been able to afford braces until now. The ugly suckers grilling her teeth wouldn’t come off for another six months.

“Okay.” Pandora forced a grin. “Bright side of what?”

“Maybe he won’t remember you from this afternoon.”

She sagged. If he was inside dancing, or worse, making out with a woman like he meant it, that’d kill her. She didn’t have enough years left to wait until his next divorce and for him to notice her. “I can’t do this.”

“Sure you can.” Lupe hugged her. “You look gorgeous.”

She resembled a wannabe Kardashian, her outfit borrowed from Lupe and Simone. A sparkly bustier in scandalous red, black jeans snug as skin, and fringe cowgirl boots. Pandora’s hair fell loosely to her waist, rounding out the smutty picture. “He might be with his date.”

Simone shrugged. “So? Make him forget her. Grab yourself a cowboy and give Jack someone to be jealous of.”

“In what universe? He doesn’t know me.” She covered her face. “He doesn’t want me.”

Lupe slapped Pandora’s biceps. “Quit talking that way. Did you forget why you got this?” She jabbed Pandora’s shoulder.

In a braver moment, she’d gotten a tattoo there, the stylized swan showing she’d evolved from the Plain Jane wallflower she used to be, to a woman men wanted. “I’m going to get it lasered off.”

“No, you’re not.”

Simone and Lupe pulled her into the building.

The heat punished worse than outside, this warmth generated by countless bodies and raging hormones. Couples danced, cuddled, kissed, and groped to the thunderous beat. Unattached guys hung out at the bar, played pool or darts, and eyed the single ladies. An acrid cloud hung heavy enough to kill a five-pack-a-day smoker.

Lupe elbowed Pandora. “Smile.”

“Can’t.” Simone pointed to her mouth. “Stupid braces.”

“Not you. Her.” She jabbed Pandora. “Go on.”

She couldn’t get her lips to work. Jack strolled through the smoky haze with more macho than Moses had through the Red Sea and stopped directly in front of her, seemingly conjured up for her pleasure. Black jeans hugged his long legs, dress boots his big feet. His black shirt fit snug, the sleeves folded back to expose his forearms. A huge silver buckle displaying the letter R graced his belt. He’d left enough stubble for a dangerous edge and looked good enough to eat.

The room spun.

“Jack Ryder.” He put out his hand. “We’ve met, right?”

“Sure.” Simone giggled. “Pandora gave you a ticket this afternoon. Remember?”

The heat in his eyes said he didn’t…or maybe he did. Pandora couldn’t be certain.

“That’s right.” He smiled slow and lazy. “Officer Perez. We meet again. Great tat.” He stroked it.

Tingles shot up her arm. Her throat constricted, making speech impossible. She slipped her hand into his.

He shook firmly, proving his strength, but kept it gentle, too, though not enough to let her get away. With skill honed from a thousand conquests, he eased her closer and fondled her fingers.

Not about to play dead, she stroked his thumb.

He reeled her in, their knees bumping, thighs touching. Noise receded, along with the crowd. Only he remained, his eyes sparkling in the faint light.

He cupped her face.

Not even death would have kept her from enjoying his touch. This felt too good and right. What should have happened years ago.

She melted into him, eager to start their journey no matter the final destination. Only fun mattered, experiencing what beautiful people did so effortlessly.

He stroked her cheek, his gesture surprisingly tender. “We good so far?”

Whiskey scented his breath, musk his bod, making her bold. “Definitely, but I want more.”

Mischief and lust danced in his eyes. “What did you have in mind?”

“Why don’t you show me?”

Intense and all male, he lowered his mouth to hers and slipped his tongue inside.

Prep for NaNo with ABOUT WRITING: YOUR ESSENTIAL WRITING MANUAL by Suz deMello (@NaNoWriMo #NaNoPrep)

Plenty of writing manuals are available, but of course I think mine's the best, with Self-Editing For Fiction Writers a close second. I also found Stephen King's On Writing marvelous, but more for King's autobiographical musings than craft--though there are plenty of great craft tips in it. I'd also recommend Rita Mae Brown's Starting From Scratch.

But my subject is About Writing, and here's how this handy little writing manual can help authors prepare for NaNoWriMo--National Novel Writing Month. In case you're unaware of this event, November is the month when support groups help writers slam through the arduous job of writing a complete 50,000 word novel in one month--an enormous task, even when divided into thirty 1667-word increments.

The most important task for the NaNo writer is plotting. In this situation, it's crucial for the writer to know what twists and turns the plot will take. But plotting isn't possible without carefully defining characters and their conflicts, because conflict drives the plot.

Here's what About Writing has to say about this task:

What are the building blocks of plot and story?

How important are these? Quite simply: No characters, no conflict. No conflict, no plot. No plot, no story. No story, no book.

It’s as simple and as difficult as that. Without characters with solid inner and outer conflicts, there’s no story, because your story is the journey that the characters travel to solve their conflicts. This journey may be physical, with characters actually going somewhere (Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz), or it may be emotional (Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird).

Diane Farr, a multi-published Regency and teen novelist says, “Conflict arises from character and plot arises from conflict. The most basic level is interesting people in an impossible situation.”

Plot and story should flow naturally from the characters and their conflicts. Otherwise, the story and the events in it will seem forced.

Upcoming rereleases - my shapeshifters are back

Hi all from Francesca Hawley!

Today I officially have all of the rights back to all of my books. I set up a buyback offer with my former publisher and today the last two books reverted. That means I'm planning to rerelease those books with new covers and edited content. It's an exciting day for me.

I admit it's also a little scary to be the one making all the decisions about my books, but it's liberating too. My shapeshifter books are the ones I'm happiest about. They've been tied up for a very long time and so I've chosen not to write additional stories in that world that I created until I once again had creative control over my work. Now I do.

During October, Alpha vs. Alpha will be rereleased. In November, Rockin' Little Christmas (formerly titled Cupid Rocks) will be available for purchase. Leader of the Pack will make its reappearance in December and in January, Protect and Defend will be available.

My plan is to pick another story that I've started but not finished, and get it written for a February release date. If you're a fan and have a favorite character who's been dangling in the wind for a while, please post and let me know that you want his/her story. I value my readers and I want to make all of you happy!

Alpha Characters: Some days I just take Dictation

When I started writing “The Wolf Masters” series I was fascinated by the hot springs and all the potential for romantic scenes around natural hot water pools. Nothing is prettier than sitting naked in hot water outdoors, surrounded by snow, and accompanied by a couple of delicious men.

But for some unknown reason, Nevis refused to stay on the mountain. She was interested in one of the men there, but decided it was time for her to return to the world again.
Of course when the very man she’d been interested in invited her to go to Pine Corner with him and the person he’d agreed to share a woman with, things started to fall into place and the second book of the Wolf Masters series was born.

When it came time to think of a third book in the series, I was mentally back in the mountains, envisioning those hot springs.
But no. Nevis had made friends with a local sculptor in Pine Corner, and Anne’s story needed to be told.

The characters make all the decisions around here. Some days I just take dictation!

Naked for Her Two Masters (MFM) by Berengaria Brown The Wolf Masters 1
Andorra Yasbit’s father took off with a blonde bimbo and her stepmother closed their apartment. So Andorra hikes up a mountain and discovers a wonderful hot spring. The only problem is the werewolf who owns it is Master Kingston, who’s used to being pursued by gold digging women. And he has an equally Dominant best friend, Master Raleigh. They don’t believe she’s arrived by accident. The two men take Andorra to the dungeon, but instead of being scared Andorra revels in the punishment and orgasms. The men can’t find any evidence Andorra has been lying to them, but Master Kingston can’t bring himself to trust her either. And the more time they spend together, the stronger the attraction between the three of them grows. Kingston is determined to break her and prove she’s deceitful. Raleigh wants to believe her but owes his allegiance to his Alpha. What can Andorra do to demonstrate she’s telling the truth?
Note: This book contains dubious consent.

Undone by Her Two Masters (MFM) by Berengaria Brown The Wolf Masters 2
Burned out human speech therapist, Nevis Greenway, has been recuperating at Hot Springs Mountain. She likes York Greenmountain with whom she plays cards, but he’s shown no interest in her. Until his best friend, the Dom Bronx Montaine, arrives. Bronx is about to open a new branch office for the werewolf pack and he’s been told to take a woman with him. York suggests Nevis, and Bronx thinks she’ll suit him very well. Nevis is happy to go with them, and sleep with them, too, but just until the branch is established. Once they arrive in Pine Corner, though, all bets are off as they try to work together, set up the transportation company, and play increasingly hot BDSM scenes all around the state, in the B-Train, the minivan, the trailer… And still Nevis won’t consider staying with them for very long.

Seduced by Her Two Masters (MFM) by Berengaria Brown The Wolf Masters 3
Anne Wade is a sculptor who lives at Pine Corner. She hires the Hot Springs Transportation company to deliver her valuable bronze sculptures to a New York gallery. Cody Winton, a driver, and Carson Mellor, the Hot Springs attorney, who are both werewolf shape-shifters, go along with her in the big rig to guard the sculptures—and her. Carson hates the city, that’s why he moved to Pine Corner, but he can’t bear to be away from Anne. Cody’s just new and still learning the job. Anne is a sculptor first and foremost, and her entire future rests on the safety and success of these bronzes. But bronze is ninety percent copper, and robbers can easily melt such artworks down and make a lot of money from it. How can two men keep Anne and her sculptures safe on such a hazardous journey?

Why Gargoyles?

I recently finished my story for the next Naughty Literati anthology, Naughty Flames.  Like my story from last year’s winter anthology, it involves gargoyles. Because of the mythology I’ve established for gargoyles in my world, winter is about the only time I can do interesting stories for them since that’s the time period when they can assume human form. That works for me since I don’t want to limit myself to gargoyle stories but I do enjoy writing about them.

So, why do I like gargoyles so much? Beats me.

I’d like to leave it at that, but I’m a writer, so of course I have a few more thoughts and words about it.

What is it about gargoyles that makes them so fascinating? Maybe the fact that they’re just so very homely, and humans have an odd soft spot for the outrageously ugly. They’re kind of underdogs by definition. Except that we often picture them as strong, fierce, and able to fly. Yup, bit of a paradox there.

Because they often grace churches and large public buildings and are usually built high on the structure and shown facing outward, we tend to view them as guardians or at least lookouts. And there we start to get an interesting contrast, because if they’re guarding anything, they’re guarding the building, and by extension, us, the people who use that building. So they’re doing a service for us.

It’s kind of hard to figure out just what they’re guarding us against, but I suspect that line of thought could lead to another series of stories when I do start to get a glimmer of the dark side these creatures help to keep at bay.

For me, the contrast between an ugly exterior and a beautiful soul inside is one of the features that fascinates me. I guess it’s a Beauty and the Beast kind of archetype, with a heroine who comes to realize that looks are important, but they aren’t the most reliable mirror of the soul within.
